Uglybooks paper is great for most media, but is not treated for watercolor use, even though you will see artists working with watercolors on them.
All Uglybooks paper is made from responsibly sourced ECF (Elemental Chlorine Free) virgin fiber. It is archival quality as well as acid and lignen free. This paper is meant to stand the test of time.
We use biodegradable shrink-wrap except for our Mystery packs.

We have over 3,000 colorways planned. We do not foresee restocking any particular colorways in the next few years, if at all. We might decide to bring back a colorway, but we cannot guarantee which one or when that might be.

We are use 135gsm for the inner pages and 350gsm for the cover stock.
Uglybooks do not use watercolor paper. Some of our customers have used watercolors and other wet media, but the paper may buckle depending on the amount of water used. There are techniques to make Uglybooks watercolor safe using gesso or Golden's satin glazing.
Five of our colors are 100% recycled pulp. The rest of our paper is 100% FSC certified, post-consumer fiber and are completely biodegradable and recyclable.
The front cover of all Uglybooks are completely free of branding. The back cover has a small foil embossed logo on the bottom. The books are wrapped with a clear shrinkwrap that includes a printed transparent sticker. The images where you see text on the front of the book is actually just the sticker on the shrinkwrap.

Mystery Books have three completely different colorways in one package. We try our best to make sure you will receive different colorways if you order multiple Mystery Book packs, however we cannot guarantee it.

"I have seen the ads for uglybooks and wondered how I, a less than amateur artist, could make colors like these work? But the lure of the reviews about the great paper feel, was too much too ignore so I went and got three books. I AM SO GLAD I DID. It took me a couple of weeks to even use one because I didn’t want to mess them up! But I finally had it trust that I could get more someday if I use these up, and go for it. The paper feels wonderful and can handle a lot of erasing and rubbing. Starting with a colored page makes everything feel better, too…mistakes aren’t glaring, and any line I make just looks more substantial.
